Great influencers of old have well noted that it’s not trying to get something done all at once that wins the race. It’s the small steps we take, and that’s also true of the process of writing. The smart writer has an accumulation—probably spanning many years—with many journals of fodder to cull. One small sentence can lead to a chapter, but unless we get started with that first critical draft, there is no finished product.

Backstory
I have been a reporter for 25 years, with over 5,000 stories across several news media. One thing I’ve learned in my journey is that the craft itself is only part of the creative process. First thing is getting the notes—all the scattered notes and all the varied pieces of paper—for those who still rely on the power of the pen. Versatility is important: write whenever, wherever.
Often, my keyboard clanking to the beat of my own creative rhythm is evidence of the process. The sounds of creativity are at work. Sometimes it feels like chopping wood—but not really—not when there is a first draft to gather and clean up the shavings and pieces.
Even that pile of disarray can be worked with, whipped into shape, and molded. That’s what we hope to do with your creative process. Even if there is some ghostwriting involved, it’s important to capture your voice. What good is a book that is written totally by someone else? That isn’t your voice—the voice that the Creator gave you to share with the world.
Everyone has a book in them. I have interviewed so many people who, even though they may not be what is considered high rollers or prestigious, are powerful in their own right. So many are passionate about the human condition and their role in preserving humanity, justice, and equality. They usually do it for little or no money, and their advocacy is more powerful than the high rollers that reach the pinnacle—whose motive may be off base.
Tip: Pick your passion. We all have one. Sometimes it’s more obvious if it has been a lifetime journey. For others, it’s being a mother, a grandmother, a father, and grandfather—wanting to leave their legacy to the children. Our book could be timeless advice, even if it’s carried on in special family recipes handed down. For many of us, food—the language of love—is something we labor over. It could be a memoir with timeless advice for the next generation.
Who Are You Talking To?
Our book doesn’t have to be the next biggest box office hit—although it could be. Whatever our passion, it should be about more than the thrill of seeing our name in print. We have so much more inside of us.
What’s your motivation for creation?
