Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Whoever said, “It’s not what you say, it’s what you do,” couldn’t be more true when it comes to the writing process. Procrastination is the biggest killer of ideas and creativity. The antidote is simple: write down everything. It could be in a binder, in a document—let no creative thought fall flat and fast on its face.
You Knead the Words
This sentence is sure to resonate more with bakers, but even great bakers need a book at times to get a new twist on an old recipe.
The goal of our book club is just to inspire everyone to get their own vibe, groove, movement, and methodology to get the words at least into a first draft. It’s easy to stop midway in a sentence and get stuck wondering what word comes next. That will come, guaranteed, if you are committed to the initial idea that made you want to write a book to begin with—and if you can step aside from self-criticism long enough to get the words down. For the most part, those words will have to be tweaked and rewritten to take the shape you want to knead into, like fine artisan bread.
Just Write
Try things out. Write short sentences, long run-on sentences, sentences with half the words misspelled. Write **** if you can’t think of what works there—don’t stop the momentum to sweat the small stuff. Write outside in a scribble pad, get tactile, get away from the laptop. Write inside, tied to the chair—but just write.
Tip: Everyone can write a little something. Start with the first draft. Get 4×6 cards if it’s easier to conceptualize and see the big picture to start your book structure. If you get hung up or need some extra help, ask us—we ghostwrite and we’ll write it for you.
